Why train in the aircraft

No simulator. Real flying.

Most Citation 500-series type rating training happens at a simulator training center, on a fixed multi-week schedule. With DAJETS Training you train in the Citation 500-series itself, on a schedule built around you.

  • Built around youYour course is tailored to your experience, ability and schedule. No fixed multi-week program.
  • At your airportWe can train you in your own aircraft at your home field, or with us at KOPF in Miami.
  • No SOETraining and testing in the aircraft means no 25-hour SOE requirement after your first type rating.
  • Real-world flyingReal G-forces, live ATC, real traffic and actual weather. You learn to make decisions, not rehearse a checkride.

Questions

Citation 500-series type rating FAQ

Can I get a Citation type rating without a simulator?

Yes. You train in the actual aircraft and take the practical test in it. No simulator course is needed.

What aircraft does the CE-500 type rating cover?

The Cessna 500, 501, 550, S550, 551 and 560: the Citation I, I/SP, II, II/SP, S/II, Bravo, V, Ultra, Encore and Encore+.

Does the CE-500 type rating cover the Citation Bravo, Ultra and Encore?

Yes. The Bravo (model 550) and the Ultra, Encore and Encore+ (model 560) are all covered by the CE-500 type rating.

Can I get a single-pilot CE-500 type rating?

The Citation I/SP (501) and II/SP (551) are certificated for single-pilot operation. We can train and test you for single-pilot operation in those aircraft.

Does the CE-500 type rating cover the CJ or the Citation XLS?

No. The CJ series uses the CE-525 type rating, which we also offer, and the Excel and XLS use a separate type rating.

Do I need SOE after my first Citation type rating?

No, not when you train and test in the aircraft. The FAA requires 25 hours of Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) from first-time type rating applicants trained in a simulator; in-aircraft training does not carry that requirement.

Can I train in my own Citation at my home airport?

Yes. We can come to your home airport and train you in your own aircraft, or you can train with us at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (KOPF), Florida.

How long does Citation type rating training take?

It depends on your experience, the aircraft and your schedule. Because the course is built around you instead of a fixed program, experienced pilots often finish sooner than a set multi-week simulator course. After reviewing your logbook we give you a realistic estimate.

What do I need before starting Citation type rating training?

A pilot certificate and a current medical certificate. If you don't hold an instrument rating, the type rating is issued with a "VFR only" limitation. During the assessment we review your certificates, ratings and experience, along with your insurer's requirements.

Is your Citation type rating training insurance-approved?

Yes. Our programs are insurance-approved. Tell us your underwriter's requirements during the assessment and we will make sure your course meets them.
