Your path into the jet

Whether this is your first jet or your fifth type rating, the course starts from where you are today.

First jet

Step up to your first jet

Moving up from a piston twin or turboprop? We build your course around your experience, so the jet feels like the next step, not a leap. Because you train and test in the airplane, there's no 25-hour SOE requirement after your checkride.

Adding a type

Add another type rating

Already type-rated? Your course focuses on what's new: the systems, procedures and handling of the new airplane. You don't repeat what you already know, and you don't sit through a multi-week course.

Train in your own jet

Why train in the aircraft

Real flying builds real pilots

Simulator courses are built to move large groups through a fixed syllabus. In-aircraft training is built around one pilot at a time. Here is what that changes for you.

Your course

Custom-tailored to you

We shape the syllabus around your experience, your ability and your schedule. A high-time turbine pilot and a first-time jet pilot get different courses, because they need different things.

Your time

No long course to attend

Skip the multi-week residential program, the hotel and the time away from work. You train in focused blocks that fit your calendar and finish when you are proficient.

Your location

We train where you are

Our instructors come to your home airport and train in your aircraft. You learn the airplane you will actually fly, at the field and in the airspace you actually use.

Your judgment

Learn to think, not to pass

Sim courses often teach to the checkride profile. In the airplane, nothing is scripted. You learn to analyze a situation, make decisions and manage the aircraft, which is what keeps you safe after the checkride.

Your first type

No SOE for a first type rating

The FAA requires 25 hours of Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) from first-time type rating applicants who train in a simulator. Train in the aircraft and that requirement does not apply, so you can fly as soon as you pass.

Real world

Real G-forces, real ATC, real weather

You feel the actual G-loads and the adrenaline of a real engine-out or rejected landing. You work with live ATC, see and avoid real traffic and handle the weather of the day, all with an instructor beside you.

Real-world training

Every lesson ends on a real ramp, not in a training center.

Your instructor

Private pilot at 17. Instructor at 18.

I earned my private pilot certificate at 17 and my flight instructor certificate at 18. Since then I've earned 12 jet type ratings and flown on six continents, with experience in both Part 91 and airline operations.

Outside the jet I fly helicopters and aerobatics, and I teach upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT). That background shapes how I teach: real airmanship and sound decisions in the actual airplane, not just a rehearsed checkride.

How it works

From first call to checkride

A clear sequence, adjusted to where you start.

  1. Assessment

We review your logbook, experience, aircraft and insurance requirements, then outline a course that fits.

  2. Ground school

Systems, limitations, performance and procedures for your type, at your pace and focused on your airplane. For the CitationJet, CJ1, M2, CJ3+ and Phenom 300, start early in our online Ground School.

  3. Flight training

Normal, abnormal and emergency procedures flown in your aircraft, in real airspace with real ATC and weather.

  4. Checkride

When you are ready, not when the calendar says so, you complete the practical test and earn your type rating.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can I get a jet type rating without a simulator?

Yes. With DAJETS Training you train in the actual aircraft and take the practical test in it. No simulator course is needed.

Which type ratings do you offer?

CE-500 (Citation 500, 501, 550, 551 and 560 variants), CE-525 (CitationJet and CJ series, including the CJ4), EMB-500 (Phenom 100), EMB-505 (Phenom 300), LR-60 (Learjet 60), HS-125 (Hawker) and RA-390 (Premier I and IA).

Where are you based, and can you train at my airport?

We are based at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (KOPF) in Florida. We can also come to you and train in your aircraft at your home airport.

Will my insurance company accept in-aircraft training?

Our programs are insurance-approved. Tell us your underwriter's requirements during the assessment and we will make sure your course meets them.

How long does a course take?

It depends on your background and the aircraft. Because the course is built around you, experienced pilots often finish faster than a fixed simulator program. We give you a realistic estimate after reviewing your experience.

Do I need my own aircraft?

Most clients train in the aircraft they own or will fly. Contact us if you need help arranging an aircraft for training.

What is SOE and why don't I need it?

SOE stands for Supervised Operating Experience. The FAA requires 25 hours of it from pilots who earn their first type rating in a simulator, flown under the supervision of a qualified pilot before the limitation is removed. When you train and test in the aircraft, SOE is not required.

Can you train me for single-pilot operations?

Yes. The CE-525, EMB-500, EMB-505, RA-390 and the CE-500 single-pilot models (501 and 551) can be trained and tested for single-pilot operation.

Do you offer an online ground school?

Yes. Our Ground School app at app.typerating.aero is an online type rating ground school for the Citation CJ3+, the Citation M2, the Citation CJ1, the original CitationJet and the Phenom 300: animated systems you switch yourself, memory items drilled to zero defects, spaced repetition, single-pilot SRM scenarios and a mock oral, on your phone or computer. A course is $399 for 12 months, or $499 for Lifetime; a Citation Lifetime includes every CE-525 course on sale when you buy (today all four Citation courses), and a Phenom 300 Lifetime covers the Phenom 300. It is study material for training purposes only and works with any training provider.
