What's inside

Each course is built for one airplane and one avionics fit, and it teaches the way pilots actually learn an airplane: by doing, recalling and deciding, not by rereading.

  • Systems you operateAnimated schematics with real-looking cockpit switches. Turn on a battery, fail a generator or pull a breaker and watch the system respond, then predict what happens next.
  • Teach, then testEvery question comes right after the page that teaches it. Understanding first; the numbers get their own lesson at the end of each system.
  • Memory items to zero defectsStudy, sequence, then recall each memory item against the clock. One wrong step and the run starts over.
  • Spaced repetitionSmart review brings back each question just as you are about to forget it, so the first week's systems are still fresh at the end.
  • CAS, annunciator and engine-start drillsRead a CAS message or an annunciator light and pick the first action. Run engine starts on live gauges and catch the hot, hung or no-light start in time.
  • Single-pilot SRM scenariosDecisions with consequences and a debrief, written for flying the jet alone.
  • Mock oral and written checkExaminer-style questions you answer out loud, a limitations blitz against the clock and a mixed written check scored at the end.
  • Help that knows the courseAsk the built-in AI assistant. It answers only from the course text, citing AFM references, and hands billing and account questions to a person.

Study plan

How to prepare for a Citation CJ or Phenom 300 type rating

  1. Book your training

A simulator course at a training center or training in the aircraft. Check your insurer's requirements. Either way you will be tested on systems, limitations, procedures and judgment.

  2. Learn the systems early

Start a few weeks out. Work through one aircraft system at a time with the schematics until you can predict what a switch or a failure does.

  3. Drill the must-knows

Memory items to zero defects, limitations, CAS messages or annunciators and engine starts, in short daily sessions. Spaced repetition keeps them fresh.

  4. Rehearse decisions and the oral

Fly the single-pilot SRM scenarios and run the mock oral until you can explain the airplane out loud. Then go fly.

Questions

Online ground school FAQ

What is the best way to study for a type rating?

Practice beats rereading. Learn each system until you can predict what a switch or a failure does, drill memory items and limitations until recall is instant and error-free, review on a spaced schedule instead of cramming the night before, and rehearse decisions and the oral out loud. Ground School is built around those methods for the Citation CJ3+, M2, CJ1 and CitationJet and the Phenom 300. Use it alongside your training provider's material and the AFM.

How do I prepare for a CJ3+ type rating?

Book your training first, either a simulator course at a training center or training in the aircraft, and confirm your insurer's requirements. Then, in the weeks before, learn the CJ3+'s systems until you can predict what a switch or a failure does, drill the memory items and limitations until recall is instant and error-free, learn the CAS messages and performance, and rehearse single-pilot decisions and the oral out loud. Our online Citation CJ3+ ground school covers all of this, with a free preview. It is built for the CJ3+ with Garmin G3000, not the Pro Line 21 CJ3.

How do I prepare for a M2 type rating?

Book your training first, either a simulator course at a training center or training in the aircraft, and confirm your insurer's requirements. Then, in the weeks before, learn the M2's systems until you can predict what a switch or a failure does, drill the memory items and limitations until recall is instant and error-free, learn the CAS messages and performance, and rehearse single-pilot decisions and the oral out loud. Our online Citation M2 ground school covers all of this, with a free preview.

How do I prepare for a CitationJet type rating?

Book your training first, either a simulator course at a training center or training in the aircraft, and confirm your insurer's requirements. Then, in the weeks before, learn the CitationJet's systems until you can predict what a switch or a failure does, drill the memory items and limitations until recall is instant and error-free, learn the annunciators and performance, and rehearse single-pilot decisions and the oral out loud. Our online CitationJet ground school covers all of this, with a free preview. It is built for the original CitationJet, serials 525-0001 to -0359, with the Honeywell SPZ-5000 EFIS.

How do I prepare for a CJ1 type rating?

Book your training first, either a simulator course at a training center or training in the aircraft, and confirm your insurer's requirements. Then, in the weeks before, learn the CJ1's systems until you can predict what a switch or a failure does, drill the memory items and limitations until recall is instant and error-free, learn the annunciators and performance, and rehearse single-pilot decisions and the oral out loud. Our online Citation CJ1 ground school covers all of this, with a free preview. It is built for the CJ1, serials 525-0360 to -0599, with Collins Pro Line 21, not the CJ1+.

How do I prepare for a Phenom 300 type rating?

Book your training first, either a simulator course at a training center or training in the aircraft, and confirm your insurer's requirements. Then, in the weeks before, learn the Phenom 300's systems until you can predict what a switch or a failure does, drill the memory items and limitations until recall is instant and error-free, learn the CAS messages and performance, and rehearse single-pilot decisions and the oral out loud. Our online Phenom 300 ground school covers all of this, with a free preview.

How is Ground School different from a CBT?

A traditional CBT is mostly narrated slides and static diagrams, with a quiz at the end of each module. Ground School has you operate animated systems with cockpit switches, asks each question right after the page that teaches it, drills memory items to zero defects against the clock and uses spaced repetition to schedule your reviews. It runs on your phone or computer in short sessions.

Which aircraft does Ground School cover?

Four Citations on the CE-525 type rating: the Cessna 525B Citation CJ3+ (Garmin G3000, Williams FJ44-3A engines, single-pilot), the Cessna 525 Citation M2 (Garmin G3000, Williams FJ44-1AP-21 engines, single-pilot), the original Cessna 525 CitationJet (serials 525-0001 to -0359: Honeywell SPZ-5000 EFIS, Williams FJ44-1A engines, single-pilot) and the Cessna 525 Citation CJ1 (serials 525-0360 to -0599: Collins Pro Line 21, Williams FJ44-1A engines, single-pilot). And the Embraer EMB-505 Phenom 300 (Prodigy flight deck with Garmin G1000, Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535E engines, single-pilot), on the EMB-505 type rating. Each course is built for one airplane and one avionics fit: the CJ3+ course does not cover the Pro Line 21 CJ3, and the CJ1 course does not cover the CJ1+.

Do you have RVSM or oceanic training?

Yes. Two International courses, operational ground training for any aircraft: RVSM, which covers the 15 ground training subjects the FAA lists for LOA B046 (AC 91-85B, paragraph 3.2), $99 for 12 months; and Oceanic & NAT HLA, which covers the 56 ground and procedural training subjects the FAA lists for LOAs B036 (oceanic RNP) and B039 (NAT HLA), $199 for 12 months. Both together are $277, 12 months each, in one payment. Each ends with a certificate of training; they are not FAA-approved.

What does each course include?

Every system (electrical, fuel, powerplant, fire protection, bleed air, ice and rain, pressurization, oxygen, hydraulics, landing gear and brakes, flight controls, and the avionics with autoflight), then limitations, performance, memory items and single-pilot resource management. Practice drills include smart review, memory items, a limitations blitz, CAS or annunciator challenges, an engine start trainer, SRM scenarios, a mock oral and a mock written check.

How much does Ground School cost?

$399 for 12 months of one course, or $499 for Lifetime. A Citation Lifetime includes every CE-525 course on sale when you buy, which today means the Citation CJ3+, the Citation M2, the CitationJet and the Citation CJ1; a Phenom 300 Lifetime covers the Phenom 300 course only. Lifetime means for as long as we offer the course, and at least 36 months from purchase. Each is a single payment and nothing renews.

Can I try Ground School before I buy?

Yes. Create a free account to open five preview lessons and two memory items per course, the interactive systems schematics and some of the practice drills. If you buy and change your mind, you get a full refund if you ask within 48 hours of purchase and have completed less than 10% of the paid lessons.

Does Ground School work on my phone?

Yes. Ground School runs in the browser on iPhone, Android, tablets and computers, and you can add it to your home screen like an app. Sign in and your progress follows you from device to device.

Do I get a certificate when I finish a course?

Yes. When you complete every lesson of a course, you confirm that you did the lessons yourself and download a certificate of completion as a PDF (a certificate of training for the International courses). Each certificate has its own number and QR code, and anyone, such as a training provider or an employer, can check it at typerating.aero/verify/ with the number and your last name.

What does the AI help assistant do?

It answers questions about the course from the course text only, citing AFM references; the FAA-approved AFM always governs. Billing and account questions go to a person.

Is Ground School FAA-approved, and does it replace my type rating course?

No. Ground School is not an FAA-approved training program. The courses are study material for training purposes only. They don't replace your flight training, differences training or any other training the FAA requires. Use it to prepare for your course and to review afterwards.

Who makes Ground School?

DAJETS Training (typerating.aero), which also gives in-aircraft jet type rating training from Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (KOPF), Florida. The courses work with any training provider.
