CJ type rating

The CitationJet and CJ series are the most popular first jets for owner-pilots, and every model is certificated for single-pilot operation. One CE-525 type rating covers the whole family, from the original CitationJet to the CJ4.

  • Williams FJ44 engines, fuel, electrical, hydraulic and ice protection systems
  • Single-pilot workflow and resource management
  • Automation on your avionics, such as Collins Pro Line 21 or Garmin G3000
  • Performance planning, high-altitude operations and emergency procedures
  • Differences between CJ models if you'll fly more than one

Study before you fly: our online Ground School app has courses for the original CitationJet, the Citation CJ1, the Citation M2 and the Citation CJ3+, $399 for 12 months or $499 Lifetime with all four.

Questions

Citation type rating FAQ

Can I get a Citation type rating without a simulator?

Yes. You train in a real Citation and take the practical test in it. No simulator course is needed.

Does the CE-525 type rating cover the CJ4?

Yes. The CE-525 type rating covers the CitationJet, CJ1, CJ1+, M2, CJ2, CJ2+, CJ3, CJ3+ and CJ4.

Does the CE-500 type rating cover the Citation V, Ultra and Encore?

Yes. The CE-500 type rating covers the 500, 501, 550, 551 and 560 models: the Citation I, I/SP, II, II/SP, S/II, Bravo, V, Ultra, Encore and Encore+.

Can I get a single-pilot Citation type rating?

Yes. Every aircraft in the CE-525 (CJ) family is certificated for single-pilot operation, and in the CE-500 family the 501 and 551 models are single-pilot. We train and test you for single-pilot operation in those aircraft.

Do I need SOE after my first Citation type rating?

No, not when you train and test in the aircraft. The FAA requires 25 hours of Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) from first-time type rating applicants trained in a simulator; in-aircraft training does not carry that requirement.

Can I train in my own Citation at my home airport?

Yes. We can come to your home airport and train you in your own aircraft, or you can train with us at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (KOPF).

Do you offer Citation Mustang, XLS or Latitude type ratings?

Not at the moment. Those aircraft use different type ratings. We currently offer the CE-500 and CE-525 Citation type ratings, plus type ratings for the Phenom 100, Phenom 300, Learjet 60, Hawker and Premier.
