What your CJ course covers

The CJ is the most popular first jet for owner-pilots. Training focuses on flying it well alone: systems knowledge, automation and single-pilot decision-making.

  • Williams FJ44 engines, fuel, electrical, hydraulic and ice protection systems
  • Single-pilot workflow and resource management
  • Automation on your avionics, such as Collins Pro Line 21 or Garmin G3000
  • Performance planning, high-altitude operations and emergency procedures
  • Differences training if you'll fly more than one CJ model

How it works

From first call to CJ checkride

  1. Assessment

We review your logbook, your aircraft and your insurance requirements, then outline a course that fits.

  2. Ground school

Systems, limitations, performance and procedures for your exact model and avionics. Online courses for the CJ3+, M2, CitationJet and CJ1 in our Ground School app.

  3. Flight training

Normal, abnormal and emergency procedures flown in the aircraft, with live ATC and real weather.

  4. Checkride

When you're ready, you take the practical test in the aircraft and earn your CE-525 type rating.

Why train in the aircraft

No simulator. Real flying.

Most CJ type rating training happens at a simulator training center, on a fixed multi-week schedule. With DAJETS Training you train in the CJ itself, on a schedule built around you.

  • Built around youYour course is tailored to your experience, ability and schedule. No fixed multi-week program.
  • At your airportWe can train you in your own aircraft at your home field, or with us at KOPF in Miami.
  • No SOETraining and testing in the aircraft means no 25-hour SOE requirement after your first type rating.
  • Real-world flyingReal G-forces, live ATC, real traffic and actual weather. You learn to make decisions, not rehearse a checkride.

Questions

CJ type rating FAQ

Can I get a CJ type rating without a simulator?

Yes. You train in the actual aircraft and take the practical test in it. No simulator course is needed.

Does the CE-525 type rating cover the CJ4?

Yes. The CE-525 type rating covers the CitationJet, CJ1, CJ1+, M2, CJ2, CJ2+, CJ3, CJ3+ and CJ4.

Is the CJ type rating single-pilot?

Yes. Every CE-525 model is certificated for single-pilot operation, and we train and test you for single-pilot operation.

Is a CJ type rating the same as a CE-525 or C525 type rating?

Yes. CE-525 is the FAA designation for the CJ type rating. C525 is the ICAO aircraft code for the CitationJet, CJ1 and CJ1+, and pilots often use it for the whole family.

Does the CJ type rating cover the Citation Mustang or Citation Bravo?

No. The Mustang and the Citation 500 series (including the Bravo) use different type ratings. We offer the CE-500 rating for the 500 series.

Is there an online CJ ground school?

Yes, for the original CitationJet (serials 525-0001 to -0359), the Citation CJ1 (525-0360 to -0599), the Citation M2 and the Citation CJ3+. Our Ground School app at app.typerating.aero has a course for each, built for one airplane and one avionics fit; the CJ1+, CJ2, CJ2+, the Pro Line 21 CJ3 and the CJ4 are not covered. A course is $399 for 12 months, or $499 for Lifetime access, which includes every CE-525 course on sale when you buy: today all four. The courses are study material for training purposes only. They don't replace your flight training, differences training or any other training the FAA requires.

Do I need SOE after my first CJ type rating?

No, not when you train and test in the aircraft. The FAA requires 25 hours of Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) from first-time type rating applicants trained in a simulator; in-aircraft training does not carry that requirement.

Can I train in my own CJ at my home airport?

Yes. We can come to your home airport and train you in your own aircraft, or you can train with us at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (KOPF), Florida.

How long does CJ type rating training take?

It depends on your experience, the aircraft and your schedule. Because the course is built around you instead of a fixed program, experienced pilots often finish sooner than a set multi-week simulator course. After reviewing your logbook we give you a realistic estimate.

What do I need before starting CJ type rating training?

A pilot certificate and a current medical certificate. If you don't hold an instrument rating, the type rating is issued with a "VFR only" limitation. During the assessment we review your certificates, ratings and experience, along with your insurer's requirements.

Is your CJ type rating training insurance-approved?

Yes. Our programs are insurance-approved. Tell us your underwriter's requirements during the assessment and we will make sure your course meets them.
